Pokémon GO brings digital life to the real world in an Augmented Reality game.
Pokémon players are used to encountering locations based on real-world places like New York, Paris, and Hokkaido in Japan, but now they can skip the intervening steps and find Pokémon right where they are.
Pokémon GO is an augmented reality app for Android and iPhone that will tap into your location and show you where wild Pokémon are hiding. Behind a wall? Over a hill? Down the street? With your phone, you can explore two worlds at once.
Niantic, Ltd. have also developed a wearable – a teardrop-shaped Pokéball called the Pokémon Go Plus. The watch-like device can be strapped to your wrist and help you find Pokémon even when you don’t have your phone out. It connects to your device via bluetooth, alerts you to game events such as nearby Pokémon, and can capture Pokémon at the press of a button. Real-world gameplay will be available, from one-on-one battles to cooperative and group play.
Nintendo claims that Pokémon GO will be released in 2016, and available for free on Apple’s App Store and Google Play. In-app purchases will be available.
