Apple iPad Mini goes into mass production?

The Apple iPad Mini was expected to launch alongside the iPhone 5 last month but with no official word we’re left to the rumour mill to once again remind us of its existence.

The latest word is that the iPad Mini has gone into production and that is may well launch this month.

The Apple iPad Mini is thought to have a diagonal screen size of 7.85 inches and have a lower resolution than the Retina display of the current iPad. Other specs are unknown at this stage.

While the story from The Wall Street Journal claims ‘reliable sources’ as proof of the story, it’s thought that Foxconn, who already produces the iPhone for Apple, has been chosen to build the iPad Mini.

It follows on from the recent news that LG Display and AU Optronics started manufacturing LCD panels for Apple last month.

Pundits are suggesting that Apple will soon announce launch details for the iPad Mini, with the 25th October being cited as the most likely date.

With a screen size slightly larger than that of the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire, as well as most likely a higher street price, can the Apple iPad Mini compete at the entry-level end of the market? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
