Asus has officially announced its Asus PadFone 2 tablet and smartphone combination mobile device less than 48 hours after all the details were leaked online.

Asus has taken the feedback and learnings from the original PadFone and used them to make an even more impressive and unique tablet/smartphone hybrid.

As we’d surmised, the tablet portion of the PadFone 2 is based on a 10.1-inch IPS screen with 1280 × 800-pixel resolution. Other than this, Asus is keeping the final tech spec of the tablet under wraps until closer to launch.

However, it is thinner and lighter than its predecessor and comes with a sleeker design and improved docking mechanism. You’ll find it also comes with a 5000mAh battery, a 13-Megapixel rear camera and a 1-Megapixel front-facing camera.

Slotting in the tablet you’ll find the smartphone portion of the PadFone 2. Based around a 4.7-inch HD display, it is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and backed by 2GB of RAM.

There’s 4G LTE connectivity onboard too but it’s not known if EE will be picking up this device here in the UK.

Both portions of the Asus PadFone 2 run Android 4.0, but Asus has said that the Jelly Bean update is already being worked on, so those buying the device hopefully won’t have too long to wait for the update.

Asus has yet to announce pricing but it has promised that it will be on sale before the end of the year.
