Everything Everywhere, the operator of the UK’s only 4G network, has announced that it has continued the roll out of its next gen network, bringing it to a further nine UK towns.
Amersham,Bolton, Chelmsford, Hemel Hempstead, Southend-on-sea, Stockport, Sunderland, Sutton Coldfield and Wolverhampton have all been given the green light, which means residents can now access 4G speeds on their smartphones, tablets or computers.
This brings EE’s grand total to 27 cities, three months after launch – which EE’s Olaf Swantee equates to 45% of the UK population.
“As the first operator to bring 4G to the UK it is important that we make it accessible to as much of the population as possible, as quickly as possible. To be ahead of schedule and covering approximately 45% of the population within just 90 days of the launch is a great achievement for our network team. We continue to bring superfast mobile to more and more people, whether they’re using their devices outdoors or in their homes and offices, and to increase the speed and consistency of our 4G and 3G network across the UK.”
As well as widening coverage, EE says it is happy with the work it has done to increase network density of its existing 4G reach. This effectively means boosting the strength and reliability of the existing signals, meaning those in the major cities (such as London and Manchester) should be getting a better experience. EE has also been updating its 4G plans, after consumer complaints that the data limits were too low – using 4G means that you tend to go through data caps much quicker – boosting it to 20GB.
