The Huawei Watch 2 will be available through e-retailers initially, with a further roll-out expected on May 17th.

Huawei has today announced that the Watch 2 is available to purchase on Amazon UK for £329. The Huawei Watch 2 brings with it a new design and improved operating system, building on Android Wear 2.0. The focus on this wearable seems to be health and fitness, which is reflected aesthetically. Gone is the chrome finish seen in its predecessor, with a newer rubberised body and matte bezel. Navigation is still done via buttons on the side, however there’s now two of them. The lower button can be customised to open a dedicated workout App, which features running modes such as “fat-burning run” and “cardio run”. A new ‘training mode’ will enable key features in the device such as GPS and heart-rate sensor for outdoor activities, while the standard ‘Watch Mode’ disables these in an effort to conserve battery. Battery life. Huawei has quoted “up to 10 hours in ‘training mode’ and up to three weeks in ‘watch mode'”. It’s also wireless payment ready, with both Android Pay and NFC embedded directly into the wearable.

Three versions will be available at launch: the Bluetooth Sport (£329), Bluetooth Sport 4G (£379) and Bluetooth Classic (£409). The 4G version will take fuller advantage of the dedicated Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, giving the ability to make calls and texts directly from the wearable. Standard Bluetooth models will need to be connected to a smartphone host device in order to use this functionality. Those who buy the smartwatch from Amazon UK will also receive a free pair of Plantronics wireless headphones. ESim versions will also be available in select countries; handy if you want to change networks in a flash.
