Nokia Lumia 510 budget Windows Phone spotted

The Nokia Lumia 510 looks set to replace the Nokia Lumia 610 as the budget member of the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone range. The rumour has been floating around for a few weeks but now we have proof of its existence.

The Nokia Lumia 510 has been caught in the wild, revealing this budget smartphone will come with a 4-inch touchscreen display, 4GB of internal memory and run Windows Phone 7.8 with a new Start screen and a range of enhancements.

To many, the choice of OS is a wrong decision but there is a growing notion that for those countries where cost is an issue, Windows Phone 7.8 will play a major role in establishing the platform to a wider market and it looks like the Nokia Lumia 510 may well be leading the charge.

It’s also thought that, like the Nokia Lumia 610, this new budget model will come with just 256MB of RAM, so won’t be able to run the full array of Windows Phone apps and games presently found on the Windows Phone Marketplace.

While tech specs are fairly average, the leaked image above is something we’ve not seen before, with GSMArena getting the scoop, as well as a proposed street price of $150 (around £93).

It’s thought the smartphone will make its first appearance in China before the end of the year, rolling out into other territories early in 2013.

What do you think, is Nokia making the right decision launching more Windows Phone 7.8 smartphones or should they simply concentrate on Windows Phone 8? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
