The Sony Xperia Tablet S launched a little over a month ago but Sony has been forced to halt sales around the globe due to a build quality issue with the tablet screen and the device itself.
Sony has claimed that over 100,000 Xperia Tablet S devices have shipped world-wide since its launch. Based on the Android operating system, it is a 9.4-inch tablet powered by a 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and backed by 1GB of RAM.
One of the key selling points of the Sony Xperia Tablet S is that it’s water-resistant, making it ideal for use outdoors and in more extreme weather conditions.
However, due to the discovery of a flaw in the build quality process that could put the Sony Xperia Tablet S at risk of water damage, the company has halted sales.
The fault lies in a gap between the casing and the screen that could lead to moisture getting to the electronics inside. Sony has stated that any devices already sold that develop a fault due to this problem will be fixed.
There is no word on when the Sony Xperia Tablet S will go back on sale. Sony is investigating the issue and has suspended construction and sales until quality can be assured.
